The only nice sunset

Unfortunately, with the weather being very foggy and cool, sunsets were pretty much gray and non-existent.  We only had one evening where there was color.  This picture is from the edge of the campground where it overlooks the beach.

Bridge to Nowhere

Lots of fog in a coastal rain forest.  But it still looks a little freaky when the bridge that you are supposed to be taking, just disappears into nowhere......

Engineering possibilities???

The first thing that Sean had to do at the beach was redirect the flow of water coming from a run off stream.  I am hoping that this might lead to a career in dam engineering.

He also did workouts on the beach.  Running in the sand should get him ready for football!  Nothing like that extra resistance that you get from running in sand to make your legs burn.

Playing catch with his dad should help as well.

Misty Mornings

I love walking down the beach when the mist is so thick it swallows sound.  The kids were still asleep, we had our Timmies in hand (don't leave home without cans of coffee - American coffee is icky!) and we were off searching for agates, and any other beach flotsam we came across.

This area of Oregon is famous for agates which wash up on the beach.  We have found a few that we would like to tumble to see how they polish up.  Sean found an amazing rock looking thing that I thought was coral, but when we were at the Whale Watching centre in Depoe Bay, we found out that it is actually a fossilized rock, and the little holes are made from worms.  The crab on top was a fellow that washed up on the beach - there was a spot about 1/2 a km down the beach where there were so many it looked a little like a horror movie with dead and dying  crabs and very happy seagulls.

You can imagine the fun that Sean had with his sister, chasing her around with half dead crustaceans!

Lincoln City, Oregon

...ok, getting members of my family to try to stand still for photos is really difficult!  They make silly faces, poke each other, and generally make it really difficult.  Seems to work best if I just sneak up on them when they are not looking!

   We have arrived at the ocean!!  We are staying at a campground between Lincoln City and Depoe Bay.  The Oregon coast here is beautiful, but it is definitely chillier than in Seattle.  As you can see, the campground is on the cliff over looking the beach.  Our trailer is farther up the hill, but it is only a few minutes walk to the ocean. I am sure you have to book those sites months in advance.  ( not quite as good of a spot as our favorite ocean campground in Malibu).

The weather was so foggy the first day that we could hardly see anything.  We could see our breath as we set up the trailer.  Sean was lovin' it, the rest of us, not so much.  We went from 28 degrees to 12 when we left Seattle and came here.

There is nothing quite like a little baseball on a warm summer night!

David timed our journey carefully so that we were able to take in a Blue Jays game against the Mariners.  Lots of Canadian come down for Jays games, so it was a great crowd.  I'm sure there was just as many Jays fans as there was for the home team.  The Jays won, so that was extra fun!  We met up with some friends from Calgary, who were also at the game, and tried to go out to eat afterwards - not so easy as everything thing seemed to be closed.  Finally found a "pub" which allowed kids.  The whole place was full of Canadians!  They broke out singing the national anthem and it was probably the loudest rendition I have ever heard.  Americans must think we are a little strange....
Sean & David ended up going to the second game of the series the next evening with Bob and his brother-in-law.  Rianna and I went shopping - she has a one game per trip limit.  Too bad that limit doesn't pertain to shopping!
